Try using a platform tab and anchoring under the cheek bone. Then tilt the head slightly to get a good string alignment. Remember to keep the head turned towards the target and you should clear the nose no problem.

For a while several months ago, I too had a problem with the string hitting my nose. Yes, it can be very painful and even draw blood. For me it was allowing my head to remain at a slight angle that put my nose just even with the string. When the string pulled off the fingers it caught just the tip of the nose - painfully.

I found I need to make a conscious effort to turn my head directly toward the target. Also, I deepend my hook (finger position on the string) which moved the string a little further away from my face. Both of these helped eliminate the problem of hitting my nose.

Only once in a while do I hit my nose these days and it is always because I haven't turned my head far enough toward the target. My advice is work on that head position.

Dave

I find this as well when I dabble with out sights. I use a 64" bow and with normal 1 finger above and 2 below grip, middle finger in corner of mouth, I do some times flick my nose. It is all about head position.

I shoot Barebow.
Its the rule, rather than the exception amongst NFAS Recurve archers.
I shoot Med. loose, nock in the corner of my mouth, I don't stringwalk, or facewalk, but then again I don't 'aim' as such...

I stare at where I want the arrow to go, absolutely face-on to the target, both eyes open, in much the same way as an owl focuses on its prey (!)
I don't look at the arrow, the arrow tip, or the string (if I do, I miss).
I 'will' the arrow to go to the place I want.

You have to shoot a hell of a lot of arrows before this starts working (4 years worth, and I'm only just starting to get good at it), after a while, you don't need to think about distances or gaps, it all just happens.

This is only acceptable up to about 40 yrds/m though, any further, and the med. loose means you have to raise the bow so high that the lower part of the riser totally obscures the target. Then, a three-fingers-under loose is required, anchoring under the chin. Unfortunately, I am not very good at making this transition.

This is a weird 'developed instinctive' way of shooting, but its both satisfying and adaptable.

I started to hit my nose a month ago. It's annoying but a more upright and open posture with care has helped. Harlequin_uk suggested to me to move my head back to make myself develop a double chin and then roll my head round to look towards the target. Seems a good thing in training after a few arrows yesturday.

Umm... I thought this wasn't precisely the case:
What I understand is Barebow is not a FITA defined bow division type for target, only field. Barebow is shot it in [target] FITA rounds in the UK, and we have records for them, but that's because it's a defined division under [target] GNAS rules.

Please do shout if I've got this wrong, I do get confused so would like to be corrected!

Yeah you are right, bb are defined as a type in field and GNAS target but that is about it
