| ive just started archery and have nearly finished my improvers course, i bought a hoyt eclipse riser a few weeks ago and intend to buy some limbs for it very soon, i have measured my draw length (from breastbone to outstretched fingertips) and found it to be 24" have i done this right? so is my hoyt riser to big because it is 25" do i need a 23" riser? or can i just obtain short limbs to make a 64/66" bow? in short will a 25" riser hinder me? any help wouild be appreciated greatly many thanks |

| the method you described should be carried out with the palms of your hands pressed against each other directly in front of you. However, this is only indicative, do not use it as accurate. I have known more than one archer use this method to have arrows cut only then to find that they were too short. There is no reason why you should not use a 25" riser and short limbs. Besides anything else, there is a greater choice of risers in that size. I know one or two people with short draw lengths who use 25" risers quite happily. I would however set aside a day to spend at your local Archery emporium with one of the staff to ensure that you get the kit that is best for you. T.

| Much better to measure your drawlength properly - with a measuring arrow, or an extra long arrow and someone to mark it for you, but a 66" bow should be fine.

| draw length needs to be measured on a bow once you have settled on an anchor point. Basically get a long dowel with a nock on it and draw it up a few times and get a mate to mark the centreline of the hole in the riser on the dowel. The easton spinechart and quicks catalogue both have an explaination of how to calculate draw length http://www.quicks.com/pdf/quick_96.pdf.pdf try that link.

| That is not really the best way to judge draw length take a look at this thread, it may help. http://www.archery-interchange.com/f...ead.php?t=5466 My own draw length is just over 23" inches and I shoot a 66" bow. But its best if you go to a retailer and try different combination of bow length until you find the one which is most suitable to you. Edit: for some reason the link is not working , do a search for draw length and scroll down to the thread titled draw length![]() | |||||||||||||||||||||||

| Draw length measurement has been mentioned so I wont go on about it. However your riser is ok. As long as it aint too heavy then its ok. One thing I will say is shorter limbs tend to be quicker (in my experience) than there longer equivalant. Just buy a shorter limb to give you a 66" bow and you will be fine. There is no reason you cant use 68" but 66 should perform better.

The current method for doing a quick check for arrow length is not to stretch out in front but to measure from reference point at the chin to where the thumb and first finger meet when in a standard shooting position and add a bit for safety.

One with a 25'' riser and the other a 23'' riser. They both feel good while I think the 25'' riser with the shorter limbs is much smoother and faster. So I don't think a 25'' riser will hinder you
