Question bow string

I need help. my takedown bow was shooting all over the place tonight and although newish I'm not that bad usually. When I set the bow up to shoot the string had come off the riser and I am wondering if this would affect things, someone had put extra twists in to improve the brace and nocking points and these may have come out. Could this explain missing the butt entirely and shooting way to the left (I shoot left handed) my usual aim is slightly to the right. Or was I really that bad!!!!

I would suggest that your string tune isn't quite that critical.

Forget about it tonight, and try again next session and see how things go.

Kae.

a change in your brace height will also effect your nocking point a 3cm drop may cause your arrows to porpoise will also effect the sound and efficency of the bow, as a rule of thumb 25 inch riser 68 limbs 81/4 to 9 inches 25 inch riser 70 inch limbs 31/2 to 9 1/4. this is only a very rough average and is best to find brace heigh thats uits sound good then adjust your nocking point, a quick way to do this is to take the diff between the top and bottom limb (tiller) and set your nock to the differance as a starting point..
hope this helps..
also if you wish i can send you a pdf on bow tuning that is simple and clear.
just pm me with your email..

A brace height change from 21.5 to 17 is big. You could have lost all the turns that were put in when it came off the bow.
Another possibilty is that the string is breaking inside one of the servings. This can give the wild arrow flight you mentioned and as the weaker string stretches, it gives a lower bracing height. I would try to have another string; if yours is breaking, you don't want it to go on a shot, as that could damage the limbs or people nearby.

Thanks for the advice. its a club bow so string could be way past its best. And yes it was making some bad noises. Reckless have pm'd you as would love set up bracing advice. Riser is 23" but no one has said anything about size of limbs or bow but will measure this tonight. I take it I shold withdraw from the competition just to be on the safe side as I don't have another string and can't get one in time.

I stand corrected, if your bracing height has changed by that much, then it will make a difference. I thought we were talking one or two twists (sorry, my bad ).
What Geoff says is right, and it what I would suggest also (although don't tell him that, may give him a big head ).

Kae.
