| How long to shoot in a new string. Hi all, When I shot last I noticed that my sight marks were noticably lower that the time before. Then when I thought about it I realised that they had moved each time I shot. Sometimes up a couple of divisions sometimes down. Is this a new string settling down? or is it me doing something differant? I'm sure that my anchor point is not changing and grouping is still good, Just have to move the sight a good bit each day I shoot to bring the group back to the middle of the boss. I carefully note the sight position before I take the block off the track each time and it goes back to this point. Was expecting a spot of very minor tweeks but not the 2 or 3 divisions that it has to be moved. The string is a fast flight and now has about 20 dozen arrows on it. The shooting distance is the same by the way. Thanks Jeff |

| I have fastflight string and find it makes no difference when I put a new one on! ![]()

| Hi Des, Will go thru everything you suggest. I try to keep everything the same each shot but being a novice I guess being able to do this is one thing that separates me for the experts. Will get someone at the club to check things over tonight. By the way what is hook? This is a term I've not come across before. Thanks Jeff By the way, just noticed your from Northampton, which club/clubs do you shoot at? |

Hook is the term used for your fingers gripping the string. Deep hook, shallow etc ![]() |

| At the moment shooting with Northampton Archery club at Sywell range, but intend to join WOAC or Kettering as well as this would give me a choice of nights on which to shoot. My shift pattern means my days off move from week to week and I don't like to miss a week. Shoot with a shallow hook I guess. String is in the crease of the top joint on my fingers. Any deeper makes me feel like I'm not going to get a clean loose. Jeff |

| Jackdaw, you haven't mentioned that you have a bracing height guage? Do you use one and do you check te bracing height before and during shooting, essential, especially with a new string? |

| I've been having trouble with the nocking points moving - that certainly gives variable sight marks. Hopefully sorted now <crosses fingers>

| I seem to remember someone saying, 500 shots or 1 dry fire. Just goes to show just how much force is taken out by the arrow. Kae. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||

| DRY FIRE??? not a good idea. with a good string it should be well settled after one session of archery, your problem could be that the string was poorly made with uneven tension, though i would check my form before chucking it, and as BE has said nexttime you shoot stick a brace height gauge in your quiver and check this periodicly during your shooting if the brace height is moveing get a new string and start again. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
