Has anyone got any slow motion shots of a compound arrow in flight?

It doesn't matter, if all the shafts do it the same way (are matched, in other words).
Bear in mind that the fishtailing frequency and amplitude are interdependant so vary from shot to shot with the archer's variation. It was this that gave rise in the dark ages to the idea that the arrow pattern on a walk back could be linked to pressure button adjustment.

arrow flight

Hi Joe, Nice video clips, Thanks.
I follow what you said about arrows appearing to fly well. My point was that from the tuning I had done, the bow was set up to shoot the carbons yet they would not group. When I filled the shaft end to end with plastic tubing, they seemed to fly equally well but grouped very much better. They would fly more slowly with the extra weight inside, but with it being all the way through from end to end it would not be the same as fitting heavier piles. I imagine it had the effect of stiffening them. They grouped well in the target and were still grouping very well at 180yds when I shot a PB double clout.
I was just thinking, perhaps the speed they came out coincided with something in my bodies make up to give a better match to me , not just to the bow.
All the best
Geoff

I know exactly what you mean Geof, there is different 'feel' to shooting allys and carbons and it takes time ( a couple of weeks at three times a week I find) to 'acclimatise' from one to the other. This is one of the reasons I shoot aces all year round. Having said that, I find that I am shooting more Fita 18 rounds these days and this is the one indoor round more than any other that benefits the fat arrow. I'm sure someone(Joe?) has done the maths but on a Potsmouth a fat arrow will give you something like a 10% bigger ten to aim at (not enough to make me change), but on a FITA it is probably nearer 20% (which for me may tip the balance).

But (for a recurve) the fat ali hits 15% further away from the middle than an equivalent carbon

Indeed. Well, something like that anyway

Michele Frangilli - a master of indoor shooting - seems to shoot his best scores with ACEs (597 FITA 18 anyone?). For a while I believe he shot fat allys during elimination rounds in case he found himself in a closest-to-the-centre shoot off, but I think that was a few years back.

There's some memorable footage of he and Ilario di Buo (sp?) shooting for the World Indoor gold medal. Di Buo shot X10s, Michele ACEs. And Di Buo won, despite his thinner arrows
