Intrepid V Eclipse

Morning all
I have approx £150 to spend on a riser. Now I have rejected the SF as I didn't like it when I shot it. I have shot the eclipse and liked it, but haven't shot the intrepid, but have read good things about it. So has anyone got pros - cons for either or suggestions for any other riser.

Lots of other (current) threads on the Eclipse - which I don't know how to link to, so do a quick search.

Briefly, the only downsides to the eclipse are:
  • the fact it is not currently in production (although it is not discontinued: Hoyt lost their manufacturer and is apparently seeking another)
  • the painted finish, which some have found fragile
  • In the currently-available stock, the fact that limb pocket adjustment is factory preset and users are strongly advised not to modify it (though a few here have with no ill effects)
If you can live with these features, its a fantastic riser to shoot and (imho) great value for money.

PSE Intrepid is a solid riser. Slightly on the heavy side. Looks good, feels good. Only real downside is the limb alignment adjusment has been known to shake loose, so one to watch out for. You need to stay on top of the checks of the small grub screws at either side of the limb pocket to ensure reliability.

Can you qualify why you didn't like the SF?

A word of warning when trying risers. Don't draw too many conclusions from shooting an untuned bow! When I were a lad... (oh no, here we go)... I went to quicks to try out some bows. One of which was a Yamaha SFF. I hated the thing - it was loud, brash and snappy, but didn't realise until later that in fact it was just down to the setup being completely wrong (they just threw it together in the shop). You live and learn...

I've got an Eclipse, and I reckon it's fantastic! I'd (almost) go so far as saying it's a cheap version of the Aerotec. The grip is lovely, whether it's hot, cold or wet conditions, it's extremely well balanced in the hand, and it shoots beautifully.

The only drawback as far as I'm concerned is that the paintwork is a little on the fragile side. Other than that, can't fault it.

Just replaced mine with the rosewood ergo grip - exactly the same shape, lovely warm wood, and a thing of beauty.

Ahhhh - I've been thinking about doing that. Where did you get yours from, and was it a grip from a Matrix? Oh, and how much?

The Intrepid is a superb riser. I still have mine and have no intention of selling it. It's not really that heavy, being only 1270g or so (from memory), and feels great on the shot, even when shot with fast limbs and a long draw length.

PSE never really pushed it hard enough, which is why it was never that widespread. The cost was also an issue - mine was £415 when I bought it new in 2000. Still, I've never regretted it

It may be that the bow wasn't set up for me, but if found it quite "dead" (unresponsive), the guy who's bow i borrowed loves it and hates the matrix, where as I love the matrix. I should also say that he has shot 580+ portsmouth with it

The Eclipse club is hijacking the thread.

Ordered from Quicks (special order, took a couple of weeks - lots of other shops stock 'em), and its the Hoyt "Ergo" grip that is the same shape as the plastic one on the Eclipse (there is another, the "Ortho" which is more built up) - about 18 quid, I think.

There's another thread on here (again, wihs I could link it) where I found out that this grip would fit the eclipse, even though most suppliers don't name the riser on the list it fits.
