just a quick update ( sorry to hijack the thread! ), i bought some lovely red 8125 in the end and made a string, shot it in on friday.... i couldnt believe the difference!

felt nicer, not 'sluggish' compared to the B50, very crisp on the shot and the sheer increase in speed is nuts, my 18m sightmark went up a clean inch!

Dacron is evil on modern bows. It should only be used IF the bow cannot take fastflight, otherwise you are throwing 10-20% of the bows performance (not all speed) out of the window.

In order to make the adjustments faster, I leave my bow strung for at least one day after I have installed a new string. It stretches faster. I do the same periodically with backup strings

I don't believe that leaving a bow strung will stretch the string sufficently to stop them altering when you shoot.

I think that leaving your bow strung will help to settle the string, but shooting it is the only way to stretch the string.

I use a 20lb weight off an old weight lifting set, to do much the same thing, I felt a little uneasy with the thought of leaving a bow strung for periods that long, believing that the limbs like any spring under tension will take a dramatic power loss over time even modern bow limbs will take on a set if left for such a long time.

Unfortunately, I have checked with many other archers, and no one has seen any adverse effects to leaving a bow strung for a long time. Before an important competition some archers tend to leave their bow strung to make sure everything is settled.

I have tried that for a whole summer with an old bow (wooden limbs) and with a very modern set of limbs and have never seen any change. The reason for the first one was that it was a takedown but awfully long to install. In the second case, it was to make the test.

So we can saunter club at the last minute, knock the bow together in 30 seconds and hop on to the line and dump the arrows in the gold all while the curly bow guys are trying to get their strings on the right way around of course
