| brace height Does dacron stretch? Recently checking the bracing height of my bow. With my dacron string the brace height was OK. On fitting a new fast flyte string the brace height was more than with the dacron string. I then measured the respective strings and found that even though the fast flyte string was shorter than the dacron string the bracing height was less when the bow was fitted with the dacron string. Will the fast flyte string stretch with use? This leads me to believe that the dacron must stretch when it is fitted to the bow but the fast flyte string does not stretch. Is this correct? | |||||||||||

Dacron stretches a great deal.Fastflight will also stretch slightly but only for the first 12 dozen arrows (approx) depending on the poundage of your bow.

| I've had some weird experiences with dacron recently... homemade string, did a good job on it so methinks shot it for a week every night and used it at the Glamorgan field champs on the 4th, all ok no problems. then all of a sudden the brace height dropped a clean half inch... put so many twists in it it looked braided so had to abandon it. out of curiosity, put it back on a few days later... correct brace height? :sresorted to a bought string from merlin in the meantime, all cool set the brace height but keeps changing by as much as a cm from start of the shooting night to the end. is bloody weird.

| You weren't shooting a dacron string with those Winex limbs, were you? Not that you'd do any damage - you'd just lose all the advantages of shooting with a high-end limb. Sorry - had to ask ![]() | |||||||||||||

| unfortunately you're right i havent got a ff string yet, something i havent looked into.part of the reason though is that i want to start making my own strings so bought dacron to practice with, and as i've shot b50 since i started i could stick with it until i had the technique down enough to spend ££ on better string materials.

| Blimey. Get on the phone tomorrow to a decent shop and get a proper string. You'll be amazed at the difference. ![]() | |||||||||||||

| If your getting into string making i recommend BCY8125 for Recurve strings I only started on string making before Xmas but i`ve been experimenting with strand counts and have gone through 4 different strings in as a many months and i have had 0 stretch in all the strings i`ve made finally settled on 12 strands as giving the best shot for me 10 was too harsh 14 was too slow + you can get the string material in a variety of colours (also recommend BCY Halo Serving Material)

| As is Angel Majesty - just love it. Waxing is a thing of the past (ladies) - once bracing height/nocking point is sorted a quick rub bonds the fibres together using the 'stuff' that's already in the string from manufacture and bobs yer grandparents other offspring. I know Alt.Services don't get too much good press round here, but their price is about half that of Quicks and at c. £12 a reel (5 strings and counting) cant be bad!
