Handicaps - Indoor vs Outdoor

Is it just me, or do the handicap tables seem to convert one level of shooting prowess outdoors into the compound equivalent of that skill when you move to indoor rounds?

I've apparently improved by >= 4 handicap points, just by moving indoors. I don't believe I'm quite that good but I'd like to believe that some of the change is me... anyone want to suggest a reasonable exchange rate for outdoor:indoor, given that the tables clearly don't?

Somebody predicted that it would happen whilst we were still outdoors, and suggested it was to do with the accuracy built-up from shooting the longer distances. I have to say I prefer that explanation to the suggestion that the tables are out!

The tables are out. That's part of the reason GNAS has commissioned someone to write a new set of them. I've always been able to shoot a better handicap indoors than outdoors. Around 16 indoors and only around 21 outdoors.

I don't disbelieve it - I just prefer the other version!

Now you mention it though, are the new tables actually being compiled? If so do they have an expected publication date?

Cheers

Terry

According to the Winter 05 copy of Archery UK at the Operations Committee meeting held on 1st October 05, Barry Lane, the man credited with creating, and who copyrighted the Handicap Tables, has offered his services to the Target Committee to help with the review of the tables. They obviously haven't done any work yet towards the review as they say they were waiting for the summer shooting season to finish before they have a meeting.

We could be in for a long wait !!!!!!!!!!!

My handicap is the same for indoors/outside.
Does that mean I'm just crap at shooting indoors?

When I shot recurve serioulsy, indoor and outdoor handicaps were about the same, but now I am on the dark side, indoors is about 10 points better. This could possibly be that they are well designed around handicaps of 30-40, but poor at handicaps of 5-20, or it could be that they are poorly matched for compound.

Either way....don't expect to shoot your indoor handicap outside..you may do, or you may not.....it is not a good indicator.

They tend to lurk in the shadows behind the boss over to the left....

Check to see if your club has a monthly handicap shoot LMP (ours is usually shot at the same time we shoot the Portsmouth postal league).
