Home Shooting Set Up? What do people do?

Hello All, Newbie here, first post too!!

I was wondering how people go about their home set ups?

is there any tips on a back garden range? what bosses? netting? distance? target size? Safety considerations? legalities?

Just every question imaginable (please add as required)

I thank you!!!

Joe

Hi Joe,

Welcome to AIUK

My home setup is:

Compressed Foam boss with a straw boss behind it (can't remember the size) on a home made stand, placed in front of a large brick garage.
6' fencing 10' to the left, house about 10' to the right
Usually shoot from around 14 metres at a 40cm face straight down the garden.
There's two entrances to the garden, both have 'Shooting in Progress Do Not Enter' signs on them and I lock both gates.

Dave

I am fairly lucky as my friend who also shots has a nice back garden which ends in some private woods, so no problems from the safety side of things. We can shot upto 30M and we use a Danage 80cm butt just promped up on the ground. As the garden is uphill we thought this would be better than making it even higher on a stand and it does seem to work nicely. I have a couple of pics but I cannot upload them. Dave may be able to get them posted but I am not sure about available space etc on the server.

10 metre range down the side of the house ending in a brick wall. Only about 5 foot wide - but big enough to get an arrow down. I was lucky enough to be given a stand a few years back and that carries a foam boss in front of a straw boss with a thick rubber sheet as a backer. Targets tends to be small and plentiful

Hi Joe I am lucky to have a long garden with a 20 foot dirt bank behind, I can shoot up to 50 yards & use a full size straw boss, this is now on its last legs (middle has fallen out) I have decided to replace it with a foam boss when the weather improves in the spring.

Our garden is too small and hazardous to shoot in, but I have an 90 cm straw boss in a spare room. I can shoot at a distance of about two to three long rods! I have a target face on the boss, but I don't aim at the centre, I aim at the top edge of the face and shoot along. Sometimes, for variety, I shoot down the left side of the face.

The straw boss was about £25, but I don't think it will last very long...

I have around 12 yards in the back garden (which has been unfortunately split in half by my landlords, otherwise I could get around 25m). It is backed by an 8ft wooden shed, then a 6ft wooden fence. And of all the arrows I've shot, at 12y, I usually don't miss the 10-ring, let alone the gold. My neighbours are fascinated by it, so they don't care if I shoot.

I suppose I'm one of the realy lucky ones. I have 9 acres of garden. In the summer I shoot 100, 80, 60 and 50 yards on a full size boss . At this time of year when the weather holds, I'll shoot a two way clout. A little added advantage is..I also work from home.
