I notice that there was an article in the last issue of Archery Focus, which listed US competitions results back in the 1880's. They were shooting York and American rounds... The origin of the York is proabably from the GNAM (which led to the formation of
GNAS - as an organisation to support the GNAM), so it could be the American originated in the US. I'd also note that they were shooting National rounds there back in the 1940s. That might support the notion that Nationals are also a foreign import. This might make sense, given that they don't fit the usual "town name" schema
GNAS seems to have used. Incidentally, I also saw reference to a "Columbia" round - 2 dozen each at 50, 40 and 30 yards. We don't have that one on the books.
