ditto...my wife is American, she has always had trouble coming to terms with the way both she and her countrymen are percieved and ridiculed in general...

It's no longer acceptable to tell Englishman, Irishman and Scotsman jokes, yet it is a different matter when it comes to Americans..why is that?

My wife is American too, but she much prefers England and doesn't have a trace of an accent.

Not a bad shot either, when she used to shoot instinctive recurve. Packed them in the red and gold on a Portsmouth round. And she shot 42lb - very good alignment.

Some numpty set up the targets at the County of London Indoor, one year, at 20m instead of 20 yards... It was subsequently christened a "Bournemouth" round, as "it's a bit further away than Portsmouth". IIRC that was the last time it was shot at Crystal Palace...

Cakemeister,

Can you please forward me some entry forms for your new round, I think you could make a mint on entry fees.

I notice that there was an article in the last issue of Archery Focus, which listed US competitions results back in the 1880's. They were shooting York and American rounds... The origin of the York is proabably from the GNAM (which led to the formation of GNAS - as an organisation to support the GNAM), so it could be the American originated in the US. I'd also note that they were shooting National rounds there back in the 1940s. That might support the notion that Nationals are also a foreign import. This might make sense, given that they don't fit the usual "town name" schema GNAS seems to have used. Incidentally, I also saw reference to a "Columbia" round - 2 dozen each at 50, 40 and 30 yards. We don't have that one on the books.

There's also a Canadian, I can't remember the distances (little help here?), but there's one at the Bronte May weekend I think. The Juniors shoot a Maple 1, Maple 2 etc...
