Island Archers, Isle of Lewis

Island Archersis a small club, based in Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis, in Scotland's Outer Hebrides.

We normally shoot recurve target archery, but would welcome any visiting recurvers or compounders who would like to join us to punch a few holes in bits of paper... Target fees are £3 per session. We also welcome interest from people with disabilities.

We're especially welcoming of anyone who always wanted to give it a go, and never quite got round to it, or was too shy (don't worry, we're very friendly, and we never take it too seriously!) -tuition and equipment is provided free, although there's a slightly higher Target Fee of £4 per session, to cover equipment maintenance and insurance. Insurance regulations, sadly, oblige beginners to join the club (it's only thirty quid per year) after a maximum of 6 sessions.

We meet on a Wednesday evening between 7:00pm and 8:30pm all year round, at one of two venues;
  • The Nicholson Institute Assembly Hall (click herefor a map) or;
  • The Matheson Hall (click here for location), if there's an event on in the Assembly Hall. Matheson Hall's a little small, so don't expect to perfect your long-range bow tune, or have plenty of elbow-room on the shooting line!
We're still working on an outdoor venue that isn't populated by corncrakes, a protected bird species that's very good at building its nests exactly where we don't want them! But watch this space - we'll hopefully have an outdoor venue for Summer 2006! Which will hopefully give us a bit more of a competitive edge as we're hoping to enter a team in the Island Games in Rhodes in 2007!

Afterwards, we usually relocate to a café/bar in Stornoway called HS1 to have a gossip and consume a Large Latte or two before heading home. Non-archers are welcome to join us to enable us to brainwash them into trying out archery the following week...

Check out the (newly updated - woohoo - many thanks, Murray!) Island Archers Website for information, or contact me (Tobytoolbag) on this forum or email our Club Secretary...

Come and join us for a session or two!
