Someone told me a while ago that Britain's oldest archery club (or was it tournament?) is a Scottish club that specialises in popinjay. They have a pole set up permanently and shelters you can duck into if your head isn't capable of stopping falling arrows.

Could someone tell me the name and location of this club, please? Thanks.

It's ASKA (Ancient Society of Kilwinning Archers) and it's in Western Scotland somewhere.

Funnily enough, Kilwinning Archers are in Kilwinning! Outdoor shoots are in a park in front of a ruined castley type thing, a really nice place to shoot. Located a bit north of Ayr, inland a bit.

They shoot a Butt Round at 6 doz@ 30m this give the ranking for the popinjay the first in the ranking get first shot a the bird on the pole 50m up with a longbow it not easy ,
it takes about 45mins to get round very one then around again i shot it for the last 3 years, missing it this year becouse the scottish champs is on a sunday to it good fun i enjoy it give it a go
