A nice wood but not without its problems. Splitting oily, so difficult to glue. True Brazillian may not be available in the U.K.due to the CITES agreement. Many guitar fingerboards, eg Martin and Paul Reed Smith Guitars use very old supplies, other timbers are "similar " to true Brazilian rosewood.

Not a large enough chunk (would need a block at least 30" x 6" x 2") but look at this.

Never buy a piece of wood sight unseen and expect it to be perfect. You always need a longer piece in case of end splits or checks. Wider because of damage and it will be smaller when you have planed it to width and thicness. Any knots or unsighly grain. Take a full size template of your project to see if it will fit on the wood you are going to see.

Timberline (in SE) does have a stock of old Brazilian rosewood, but it is OLD- ie over 40 years I think and in their words "best used for projects like furniture restoration."

You consider one of the other rosewoods- Sonokelling rosewood is often available plantation-grown these days, much better, although obviously colour not same.

Craft Supplies do get what they call "violet rosewood" in small sizes for turning. Not sure if big enough. Web addresses for both suppliers below.

Welcome To Timberline

Craft Supplies - The Home of Wood-turning, Janik, Charles Greville, Sound Wood, ShopSmith ...

Either way, if you use any type of rosewood (ie Dalbergia species)just remember the dust is very nasty and you'll need extraction plus decent cartridge respirator for hand work.
