Lol!! Phew!! My husband was not very amused at the thought of me wandering the woods with 'Slapper' written on my arrows...

The flighty/giddy/silly/slapdash thing I can deal with though. When they get lost I can say it's their own fault for being so careless. I can see I should have posted here in the first place when looking for a translation, instead of relying on an online translator thingy!

But Ijasz..(sorry can't find the umlauts)..what does your name mean?

No problem...............Íjász means 'archer' or 'bowman', so Az Íjász is 'the archer' or 'the bowman' and if you ever visit Hungary the place you will be looking for is 'Íjászbolt' which is the archery shop! (and Íjászat = archery)
all quite simple really ROFL

Don't know what online translation guide you were using but so far (and I stand to be corrected) every one I've come across has left much to be desired. (mainly by others using the Hungarian to English (and then asking me if its OK!!) and by me trying to translate online mountaineering route descriptions from Austrian German into English....it'll very likely kill me one day!)

Hey Rachel, spankingly nice bow!

I'm planning to get a horse bow myself but don't know what draw weight to go for, so I could use a little advice if ya don't mind...

How does the 44# draw weight of your Hun compare to your recurve in terms of comfort & stability? I'm shooting a 32# recurve at the mo' but I hear it's possible to go much higher for traditional bows without dislocating one's shoulders.

Any comments &/or advice will be appreciated (except that my hair's too long & I need a bath). Thanks a bunch.

Hi Dre (or should I call you Dr? ).

Taken me a while to see this but here I am... and I've even shot the bow now! I went for a way higher poundage than I shoot normally (34lb recurve, 22lb longbow!) and have suffered no ill effects yet. A lad at Mayflower bought a 35lb mongolian and then wished he'd gone a bit heavier.. which is why I went for a 44. They sort of have a let off like a compound, so I'd say you can definitely go for a higher poundage than your recurve.

Where do you shoot? Have our paths ever crossed?

Thanks a tonne for the insight - much appreciated.

I've heard similar things about the draw on horsebows & have just about convinced myself to go for a 45 - 50# jobby; don't wanna go for a 30 pounder & get sand kicked in my face at the range!
I look forward to picking one up early in the new year.

Our paths haven't crossed... yet. I've only been shooting since September at the Rayleigh archery club but I've fallen very much in lurve with the sport.

I'll be shooting outdoors at the Runwell range once I get my insurance sorted out in Jan, but I'm hoping to be able to shoot at other ranges too as a guest/visitor. Archers are an amicable bunch (apart from the weirdos who use their initials as their forum ID's to insinuate that we... I mean they... are doctors), so it wouldn't suprise me if I can shoot elsewhere.

Who knows, perhaps you'll get to humiliate me in a competition soon. I promise not to shoot you in the foot (unless it scores a 10).

Thanks again, Mighty Flighty.

Hi!

Was that bow very expensive? Do you think it shoots a lot faster than a 45lb flat american long bow? Cheers!
