AFB and trad recurve classifications

Dear all!

Are there any classifications for afb's and asian modern\trad recurves (like Samick SKB) for imperial rounds like York?

Here in Russian Longbow Club we shoot only ELB, but people who join us with the modern ones need the classification table for their bows too... And i can't find it...

Thanks...

The classification scores are the subject of a lot of attention at present. They are set by taking a survey of handicaps across the country and then setting the thresholds so that the top 1% of archers are GMB, then next 4% are MB, 10% as bowmen etc. A new survey has been done early this year and changes to the tables look likely, particularly for compound and longbow.

Saying this, it is necessary for there to be a sufficient sample of data in order to set thresholds. It looks as though the longbow scores are likely to be extended to include scores for juniors and that there is enough information to set scores for barebow. However, I doubt that there are many archers with handicaps for bows like the AFB, so there's probably not enough information to decide what the classification scores should be.

Thanks, Mad Archer!

But if such bows will appear now at the gnas shoot, what classification table will be used for them?

As example the fellow with afb made 285 at our York round - it is the 2 longbow class, but obviosly it is easier to shoot the bow whith the modern flat limbs and long stable handle... I made with my all wooden Bickerstaffe 260 - so the question is who actually made the better score?

I'm afraid he'd shoot in the Barebow class, as GNAS does not recognise any other traditional class for target archery other than ELB. As far as I know, there are no classification or handicap tables for Barebow at present.

Would that not mean then that for handicap purposes it would be treated as Recurve?

Very possibly Dave. I think that's where my club takes my handicap rating from.

Don't confuse handicap and classification. All bows are considered in the same tables for handicap.

I believe that the proposal to GNAS included classifications for barebow. We'll have to wait and see what comes out for 2008.

Yes. You are of course quite right. Not sure what I was thinking about really.
