Hi Teddybear,

Unless you really want to wear a glove on your bow hand there is no need to.

Incidently, I'm pretty sure they are simply called Bow hand protector gloves, but somebody else may know different

If you set your nocking point in the right place then the feathers will miss your hand.

I shoot everything bare up to 120# and don't use a glove on my bow hand BUT all my bows have floss nock points. If you don't use a nock point then I would recommend a bow hand glove as you may not nock the arrow in the correct place.

When I say correct place - If you nock the arrow at right angles to the bow. Then mark the string approx 10mm above the top of the nock. The mark is the centre point where you need to re-nock your arrow. Once re-nocked shoot the arrow to make sure the feathers don't hit your hand. The likelyhood is that you will miss your hand. If you are happy then mark again and put a nocking point on. Floss, I find is easiest and best.

Don't forget that if you are hitting your hand (and decide to use a glove to protect yourself) the arrow is being affected by the collision with your hand and you are losing accuracy and consistancy.

Good luck,

Any queries just ask

When you say 'left hand force that pushes the arrow that way' do you know what your mate means? As It is a little confusing.

Are you talking about wearing a glove now or just general shooting with a longbow?

a bow glove.

you dont need anything special.
just something that doesn't grip the arrow and protects you against the arrow splitting and going through your hand, and fletching scrape that can be reduced by whipping the front of the arrow fletch.

If you are going to shoot bare handed - make sure the fletches on your arrows are nice and trimmed with either a blob of glue or thread to keep them down. I've experienced first hand (new arrows, lack of experience) a raised fletch go STRAIGHT THROUGH a golf glove into my hand. Stung like a £$%£$%"£%.

I shoot with a glove for several reasons. I went to Focus and bought a suede gardening gloves. As a lefty I kept the right one; and gave the spare left one to a right handed longbow shooter down the club. Cost me about £5.

If you do want to just pick up a glove - my only advice is to make sure the seams are cut in a way that they do not interfer with the arrow. most gloves I found did interfer - but there are a few that don't.

Fair shooting,

Dave
