| Nooooooooooo!!!! Danish Oil, Linseed penetrates and makes the wood supple and you will lose poundage, don't use it on arrows either, they will lose spine and bend. A nice "rubbing" varnish is better for arrows but Danish oil for bows. Years ago Danish oil had to be varnished over as it was not waterproof but new batches need no application of varnish |

| linseed oil Hi Teddybear, I've never used linseed oil because I've always understood it will drop the poundage of the bow quite noticably, and, make it impossible to glue new horn nocks on should you need to. Also, it would make it more difficult to pike the bow should you want to. I suppose danish oil would be the same. Happy shooting, | ||||||||||||||||||||||

| Please dont suppose, keep to factS. If you dont know, dont have a guess. Danish oil is widely used on Longbows. I use it and so do a lot of people i know. THATS A FACT !!!!!!!!! |

| Linseed v. Danish Oil Hopefully we can suppose things and others can confirm whether the assumption is OK. ![]() I don't know for a fact that linseed is bad for your bows but I do remember Carol Edwards writing in The Glade to say that it was not a good idea and bemoaning the number of broken bows that she could not repair because linseed oil had been used. [Can't find the date of the article] I've got some Junckers rustic oil which I bought to seal the kitchen birchwood worktops. Overestimated how much I needed. It works a treat on my wooden arrows. Is this the same as a Danish oil?

| HI all, Another vote for Danish oil. I've used it for years on knife handles. Gently wire wool down between coats, Minimum of three coats gives a great looking finish, Hard wearing and waterproof. Danish oil seems to be mostly composed of Tung oil with a small amount of linseed oils and an other resins depending on brand. I have always used Rustin's available from any old school hardwere shop or diy store. I've yet to get a bow to the point where i need to worry about finishes but when i do it will get 5 coats of Rustins! Good luck! Martin |
