Many Thanks for your help,
I have just recieved the second bowyers bible, as one of you mentioned, and it has a section on self arrows, I will see what it says. I am interested in the book on flecthery, I will see if i can get hold of a copy. I really do see the importance of matching the arrow to your bow, I can imagine the arrow gets ignored sometimes, with all the time spent on the bow, and none on the arrows.

cheers
dave

Arrow Spine

Hi,

A good start point is to visit the Primitive archer Website: PA Spine Tester

You can make your own Spine Tester for the price of some scap wood (we've all got it) and a 360 degree school protractor. Good luck. Remember, if you're applying hi-tech to a piece of kit that's 1000's of years old, you've got to ask yourself why.

Regards,

Al

Ah, looks good, I will make one. Thanks for the link, and yes, I dont see the point in using high tech things with traditional bows and arrows. A mate of mine gave me a carbon arrow, complete with camo coating that he found kicking around his shed, he didnt really understand why I didnt want to use it on my longbow! It would be insulting to my efforts to use a mass produced thing on a handmade bow

Ha! that is the first spine tester I have seen that I have actually been able to envisage building! Many thanks for that.

They do say better to have an acceptable bow and an excellent arrow than the other way round....
