Spot on, programming is quite different to woodwork! I've only had time to nock one arrow, using the method taught by our longbow coach - which is a first cut using a hacksaw, widened using the tile saw. It's not perfect but I think it would be usable. Like anything else, it would take some time and practice to perfect.
Still, I reckon that time spent making a jig to frame the tile saw in exactly the right place would be time saved in spades later on. I'll post piccies when it's done, provided that it's not too embarrassingly amateur!

Cheers

Hi Chris

There is such a jig out there if you'd prefer to buy one:

FLYBOW Under Arrow building supplies you'll see The Self Nocker

Let us know how you get on and post some pics!

Hi Jase

You're fast becoming the site expert on nockers! I'll get one of these because it would cost me a lot more than 12 quid's worth of time to knock one up!

Cheers

Your knives are superb, Rob! Would the neck knife be appropriate for wild mushroom harvesting? (Sorry, gone a bit off-topic here, feel free to PM)

Cheers

Hi

Many thanks to Jase, Alan, Robtattoo and everybody else who contributed on this thread, I learned loads of stuff - I'd not heard of inserts before, never mind footings!
Anyway, I knocked up half a dozen to start using the trusty hacksaw/tilesaw method, superglue gel for fletches, Araldite for the piles, extra-strong curtain thread from JLP for binding, and Ronseal teak-stain varnish from under the sink. I tried them yesterday and they flew nicely - at least to this beginner!

Cheers

Yeh I'm the same, I always cut the nock reinforcements and nocks before I do any other work on a shaft.

Nice job on them arras there Chris.

Cheers JB68! Working on the next half dozen now. Your avatar, that wouldn't be Sueno's stone by any chance, would it?

No mate, it's Lord Dacre's cross from the battlefield at Towton, Yorkshire.
It was said to have marked the place where he was shot, but was later moved.
Though this is his tomb where he is said to be burried upright sitting on his horse..
