Robin Hood, cuts both ways ....

I know a lot of us are fed-up by the association in a lot of people’s minds between archery and Robin Hood; however it can cut both ways …

It provided Matt Baker the presenter of “Open Country” on Radio 4 today (repeated from last Saturday apparently) with a rare opportunity to interview a Bowyer (I missed his name unfortunately) during his programme about Sherwood Forest. Very interesting he, and the rest of the programme was too.

Eventually you should be able to “Listen Again” here: BBC - Radio 4 - Open Country

I listened to that while driving back from a site visit, was good to hear, full of genuine enthusiasm and nice to have open country back on the programme schedule!

Thanks Worthipa , just picked up the programme on "Listen Again". The bowyers name was Pete Bakewell, who also mentioned that his father worked at " Marksman".Interesting, but all to short.

I may be wrong, but does robin hood on the bbc drama adaptation have the wrong bow, considering he is in sherwood forest in the middle ages? doesnt he have a recurved flatbow in the programme? Shouldnt they have kitted him out with a longbow? or was it not stylish enough for him?

Or am i wrong as per usual!

No, you're not wrong! It's all part of making him stand out from his merry men...

The title of this thread is almost right - there's a rumour that the next series will have to be more PC, and will be titled 'Robin Hood Swings Both Ways'. LOOK OUT, FRIAR TUCK! HE'S BEHIIND YOU....!

No you got it right in this post when you referred to the programme as a "drama adaptation".

There are all sorts of other faults, some of which have been pointed out in previous posts, rubber soled boots, machine sewn garments, plastic nocks, diamond encrusted false teeth plates; but to the general public, who the programme is aimed at, a bow is a bow is a bow ....

How did he pick up a Hungarian bow in the Holy Land?

For the record I hate the travesty that is the new BBC Robin Hood, bring back ITV's Robin Of Sherwood.

Perhaps he got it from Ye Olde Quicks Shoppe before he left? Or perhaps he met a Hungarian who had a spare?
