| I almost bought a Bakewell Rebel recently for my wife from Pete at Bakewell Bows. The website is here Bakewell Bows Pete spent a lot of time talking things through with me, and I was very tempted, and had a good feeling about buying from him. In the end she decided that she wanted a takedown, and fell in love with a club members Black Douglas, so we found the extra cash and went to Border, but it was a close call. I know that if you can get to him Pete has a 35 - 40 lb bow part made that you could draw to get the feel before ordering it, and if you do go there tell him that Daniel sent you! Daniel |

| I-R, your choice, but you could have just gone direct to the manufacturers: http://www.grozerarchery.com/index_m.htm http://www.flagelladei.hu/eindex.html http://www.lovasijaszat.hu/index_eng.php |

| Didn't Stiks say he wants a bow with an arrow rest? I suppose he could go with something along the lines of the Grozer Sparrow Hawk, shown here sparhawkgrozer |

| For a one piece wooden bow I'd suggest a 35lb Border Black Reiver with the new TX40 limbs and you won't need the extra 5lbs. Or get a takedown and up the poundage if and when required. I recently got a shot of the latest Black Douglas and if I had the money I'd be ordering one. It was 45lbs and shot so fast and flat that I'd need to drop the weight down at least 5lbs to get anywhere near my usual sight marks. And for a wood riser it had no handshock that I could feel. Also with Border you could discuss any medical problems which might determine the grip shape.

Thanks for the replies ......... Very interested in the Sparhawkgrozer just don't know much about them. Not sure how smooth or fast they would be but they do look very nice! The other bows recomended are just a tad out of my price range, I'm looking at second hand but no luck yet ![]() After listing this thread I have had a go with a nice Longbow, I know I said I need a rest really, but I did enjoy shooting this longbow. Of course I'm not sure at the poundage I would have to use wheather it would be practical? I've seen my friends longbow shot arrows bounce out of 3d's quite a few times and his is 55# draw. May be one of the Bamboo backed LB's as they are supposed to produce a better cast ... Any comments ?? Cheers, |

| Apparently the sparrow hawk is a very nice bow, this is quoted from Grozer's website: "This is a small hunting recurve bow, but it has a long draw length. It is smooth, accurate and fast." Bamboo makes a fast bow, with an osage belly it's an excellent combination. Yew tree archery (Yew Tree Archery Traditional English Longbows) make custom bows, so you shouldn't have any trouble getting what you want longbow-wise from them, someone on this forum bought a longbow from them (I forget who, Jaarus?) and they love it. Hope you find the right bow for you! |
