Posting an English Long Bow

We're shortly going to put an ELB up for sale, when we've looked at the new posting rates it seems too expensive to send by Royal Mail. Is there a postal service or carrier which is more cost effective?
It seems that it is the length which is the problem, as it can be sent in a plastic or cardboard tube which is no more the 2 or 3 inches in diameter and weigh next to nothing.

I recently sold a load of golf clubs on eBay and sent them all by Parcelfarce 48. Should be a fixed rate of £14.99 or £10.99 via paypal for an item as light as a long bow.

I took my bow to the local CityLink office and they sent it fully insured for £15
I dont think Parcel Farce will consider it because of the length

btw - a length of plastic drain pipe is a good way to protect it in the post

Interparcel : Discount UK & International Parcel Delivery & Courier Services - they have a "quote and book" page on there. I'm sure I've tested with a longbow-shaped parcel and it came out at £12 or so - and they collect from your home/office/wherever specified.

Many thanks for the information, We've found thier site which indeed does seem to be more reasonable (cheaper) than others.

UPDATE

We sold Ann's bow on eBay and booked Interparcel to collect it. We were prepared to find that we maybe charged a surcharge because of its length, but in fact the whole thing was a piece of . Total for the parcel was just over £10.50. The only thing which was a little strange, was that the instructions in the email confirmation, said that the parcel was to be left open until it was sealed in front of the driver??????? By the way the courier turned out to be UPS who delivered the bow the next day even though the service was booked as a 48 hour. We'er a 100% satisfied with Interparcel and will certainly try using them again.

Last week I sent a longbow in a cardboard tube by Royal Mail Special Delivery for just over £7 (£7-45 I think). Technically its too long, but they took it and deliverd it next day, no problem. I also received a longbow the previous week by the same route.

Might be worth a try.

We used to have a deal with them...

We used to have a deal with them, they took our light longbows all over the world for us, in the last month they have been stinging us with extra costs.

Dam Parcel force. They didnt even tell us.

We are currently looking for a new carrier. Stupid thing is, our local postoffice takes long bows, and then sends them via parcel force !!!!!
So royal mail are happy but parcel force are not! So i think its to do with who you get treated by!

Nut much help, but thats our latest experiences...
