Roy King .. Anyone know his work?

I've been offered an American flatbow made by Roy King, based in Blackpool I think.

Yew with a Hickory back, along the Howard hill lines I believe.
Cant get a picture cus the guy aint got a computer.

Has anyone seen his work?

It's a long way to go and look, just wondering if it's worth the trek.

Cheers,

Steve.

Only know him by repute, but would definitely be worth the trip from what I hear and I'm sure there will be others on here who can confirm this from experience.

Roy is an excellent Bowyer, and a pleasant chap to boot. If I remember rightly, he was the bowyer to the Mary Rose society.

Smile

Roy King is a legend. He makes the bows for the Queen's Bodyguard of Scotland ands also has worked with Robert Hardy on experiments testing the pentration of arrows into armour. Yes, he's a nice guy and makes -or used to make- excellent bows. If you are offered one of his, you're getting an very good bow.
Roy never carries a quiver when shooting, just shoves a few arrows in his back pocket!

Good Gaia people your giving me palpitations, I want to go and buy it now, this very minute!!
I've arranged to go see, if all is up to expectations I'll return, mit bow, in time for tea.

Not sure what size and spine of shafts to try. At 42# and having no glass/carbon my 11/32 55-60 spine shafts are going to be to stiff.
I draw to 28” cut to 291/2” so I can replace points if needed.
I'm thinking 35-40 5/16 Boyton Pine with 70grain piles 3” fletching to keep the weight to a minimum ???

Might start a new thread to ask opinions on that, if it ain't been done to death!! ...... I'll do a search first.

Thanks for your input, I'll post a few pics if I do buy.

Cheers,

Steve.
