Anyone got any views on belly/core woods that do/don't work well with a bamboo backing?

It's soooo gorgeous! One day......

Regarding exploding longbows - we (longbow class) were given a bit of a pep talk by our coach about breaking in our new bows last year, taking a week or more over it. The procedure we used is on the Bickerstaffe website. One of the advanced guys took his new bow to the shooting line to try it out and was given short shrift. I'm an absolute beginner but the explanation makes perfect sense to me.

ChaosBat, if you kept the broken pieces, you could always use them to build a pair of atlatls.

Clickerati and her bow is likely to hijack the thread if let them. 'Cause I'd like to see the armguard and quiver. Maybe it'll encourage me to finish mine.

Talking Bow finally arrived

Got the new bow today Lemon wood, purple heart, hickory, 55lb at 28" tillered to 32".
I will try it out this sunday. hope i dont have the same problem. Might need to wear a crash helmet until i get over my paronoia over breakage.
I really want to give the bow a try soon, anyone know of an archery centre in or near Leeds so i can give it a try before sunday. I would hate to face the embaressment again should it once again snap and crack me on the head! in front of the club members lol.

snip..........i am now paronoid about it happening again. I have a long draw about 29-30" but was told the bow was tillered to 32". It exploded at about 27-28" it has i must admit put me off a bit. potentially £200 worth of fire wood. How can i avoid this happening in future and get over my paranoyer
Wood breaks, especially stressed wood. The last one that blew up on me was impressive and it all happens so super quick doesn't it?!
Took me a while to trust my new Longbow but we get along just fine now , I treat it very well but then saying that I also treated the last bow very well. It's just one of those things.
What doesn't help are those people who stand behind and make creaking/cracking noises as you come up to the draw................
