Linseed and turps

I've used boiled linseed oil and turps on a few bows. I can't say I noticed them getting lazy as Paul suggests (hi paul - see you out to play on Sunday?).

When I re-backed and re-tillered my laminated longbow it seemed it had only penetrated a mm at most.

I have switched to danish oil now because it leaves an nice finish and takes a beeswax polish well.

I'd guess 69" is a very long longbow for an 11 year old. My nephew (just 12) shoots a bamboo backed lemonwood longbow that's barely 50".

Nice looking bow. Hope she and all the others that use it have fun.

Partly it's that long to reduce the shock of shooting it, partly it's 'cos she's growing (draw length is 2" longer over the past 12 months) & partly it's probably 'cos I forgot to remove 2" of wood from the original billet to allow for the nocks (The other longbows are 54", for mostly similar reasons)

Shoots well (take a peek at my journal ), & seems to be spot on for draw weight for her. Just needs another inch on the arrows now - as if the attrition rate of 7/12 in 6 months wasn't prompting that anyway.

Hi David
Good to see you've found this site.
That was Carol's advice about the linseed,I'll check with her about that.
You should put some pictures of the Penobscot on here as I'm sure some of the guys and gals here would find it interesting.
Yes I'll be there Sunday, it'll be good putting some wood in the air and in some targets as well with a bit of luck.
See you later.
