String length for an AFB

Now, here's one.....

The serving on the string for my Viper AFB is starting to fray, and with our 3D next weekend and little chance to shoot in a new one, I thought I'd re-use one of the old strings from my t/d recurve. Both are AMO68", both are Dacron, so, I thought, no problems.

Being the sort I am, I checked the string lengths first, just in case.

So, here's the question,

Should a 68" AFB use the same length string as a 68" recurve. Because the string that came with the bow is at least an inch, possibly 2, longer. Was this a "manufacturers rising chicken" or is there a genuine difference and should I be looking at a longer string?

The usual rule of thumb (&, I believe, AMO standard) is bow length minus 3" for a longbow/flatbow & minus 4" for a recurve. That'd explain your difference.

My 66 inch flatbow shoots best with a 62 inch string. That's a difference of 4inches.
