Viper Deluxe Brace Height & string

Anyone know the recommended brace height for the Viper Deluxe?

Mine came at about 7", but the review I've seen gives it at 8".

Also, the review here suggests replacing the string with a DF97/8125. Any thoughts on how wise this is?

Internature Viper DLX brace height.

Did you sort out the brace height to use? I just got one of these and it came at about 6.25" i.e. much lower. I'm gradually winding it up. 8" would seem very high.

Just checking where you measure to - I assume the indent back of the grip where the thumb goes?

I didn't get any answers, no. I'm currently shooting at about 7 1/4, measured to the back of the handle. Basically, imagine drawing the bow and then opening your fingers so the bow was just being pulled against your bow hand. The point of contact is where I measure to.

I also note that the supplied string is 16 strand. Pretty sure I don't need that for a 40lb draw, so am thinking of going for a 14 strand dacron to see how it goes. Moving to outdoor, I think I need as much cast as I can get, so may lower brace height as well.

Got mine set at 8" brace (well,ok, a smidgin under! ) and it's fine.

As for replacement, mine came from Quicks - they keep them in stock (14 strand).

Thanks both. Do you get these brace heights by just adding more twists to a "standard" length string for a 68" bow (seems to be 65" untwisted) or do you need a shorter string in the first place?

By adding more twists.

BUT - be aware, a 68" flatbow doesn't use the same string as a 68" recurve!!

In what way? Do you mean in terms of length or type (e.g. Dacron/Fastflight) or some other thing like the serving?

Currently I have a Flemish Twist Dacron 65" string.

There's a length difference.

I'm sure there's a thread on it somewhere here.

Ta, I found the thread: http://www.archery-interchange.com/f...ength-afb.html

Flatbow: bow length minus 3"
Recurve: bow length minus 4"

So my 65" string is right for my 68" AFB - although as I say I'll to put a lot of twists in to get it to 8" brace height.

My string for the viper is marked on the bag as 68", but I assume that's bow length.

My recurve string is marked as 64.5", which just might do...
