Doesn't look like Wenge to me. Could be bubinga, but it also has a passing resemblance to some of the more generic mahoganies.

Bit far for you to get to Yandles, but maybe they might be able to work from emailed photos. There is also John Boddy's which is quite a bit closer to you. Not sure what other fine wood suppliers you have closer yet.

Hardwood Merchants Sykes Timber - Hardwood Stock List
Try this. It looks like bubinga or a mahogany(difficult to say which, though)
From the list of specifications , it looks like the density would be a good way to distinguish Bubunga from Mahogany.

Nice to see archives available through the internet of information that comes from way before its "invention".

Shows it sometimes has some positive sides.

Well found.

On reflection, given that you did not put up a link, was this through the internet, or do you have access to all sorts of other records?

Nothing I can see. I used to store my one-piece recurves the same way.

Rob

Yeah the Archives are very handy, I have it all (Herters bows) printed out for reference. I had the Aluminium version of the bow when I was a kid. Sold it to my brother and now wish I hung on to it! Looking forward to what the good folk at TG might make of the riser wood?

Cheers

Brian
