| A. No, I'm not sure, just making a logical supposition B. Doubt it. If you read the listing, the seller seems fairly well clued up C. No more so than storing it any other way. I now hang all my bows veritically by the string, but only to save space over storing them horizontally on a rack.

| FWIW I think all this nonsense about how you store your bows is, well, nonsense Back on topic, I did some research and jogged my memory and I am leaning on the wood in question being Goncalo Alves. But as always I could be wrong ![]() | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Bri, if you check the stats from Archery Archive it tells you, it's Rosewood mate.

| Goncalo Alves This is interesting. Says it's used for Archery Bows. Looks like the photos too. But Herters should know shouldn't they. |

| Yeah, no point beating a dead horse. It's probably rosewood.. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Bkupris, just a thought; could Hereters have advertised their bows as Rosewood simply because it is well known as a luxury timber? Advertising it as Goncalo Alves would, I suspect, have meant very little to most prospective customers. Much the same as "Teak effect" is used these days. There must be some way of telling the two apart. timber recognition - Woodwork Forums Just found this; could be helpful. |

| geoff Thanks for the link. I will come clean and admit I have also posted this on another forum. Seems a bit undecided what type of wood it is. Suggestions are one of the rosewoods or possibly bubinga. I have to agree with robtattoo that it was advertised as rosewood so I have to consider that to be accurate. But somewhere back in my memory I remember a post on e**y about a similar bow and the seller claimed he was contacted by a guy that used to build their bows and he corrected the seller and indicated the wood in his particular riser was actually Goncolas Alves. Frankly I am not that bothered it's just one of those things that niggles. How somebody would determine for sure who knows?? ![]() | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Excellent. I very nearly did too.( ex woodwork teacher here) I would be interested to know if there is a simple test that could differentiate the woods in question. I feel pretty sure there will be one. It could be something as simple as one smells like ??? |
