| Fraternity of St George/Roving marks etc Just been having a look at archeryorganiser and found the shoots organised by Fraternity of St George. Does anyone shoot this type of archery? I'm ever so impressed with attitude and friendliness of the website, but I wonder of my puny old 22lb longbow would be a bit lightweight to turn up with at one of these shoots? Has anyone done one of these shoots? They look a packed day, and brilliant value! Last edited by FlightyRachel; 11-02-08 at 07:09 PM.. |

| I had a go on a roving field on Saturday... it was amazing fun.

| The FoSG shoot is a great day out and quite challenging at times. Allowances are made for lighter bows. |

| I rove a lot mainly with the Finsbury Mark and the Pickwick Pepperpots. All there roving events have bows from the lightest to the heaviest possible and a full range of ages from little children to very senior citizens. I find roving far more challenging than other forms of archery, you never know how far away something is and it could be 300yds! I've seen some simply stunning things on these shoots, in fact a very famous heavy bowman wins so often he no longer counts his scores to everyone else a chance! But don't worry about the distances on the longer marks those with lighter bows simply move foward the challenge is the same. And be prepared for a long day, a shoot usaully starts at about ten and with a break for dinner carry on until at least 4pm with lots of arrows and a lot of walking, in rain, wind, snow and blazing sunshine. Very healthy! |
