Hi all - if you're breaking a lot of arrows it may be down to using a taper fit rather than a parallel fit on your points. Taper tends to snap easilydue to the wood being weaker behind the point. A parallel fit give you more strength on the shoulder. Also have a think about footed arrows. They are more expensive to begin with but take a lot more punishment. You may even want to have a go at footing the broken ones yourselves or if that seems a bit difficult try these:

arrow footings

As Haywain says you can always start with 24!

A mate of mine tried those footings and could not get them to stick properly, they kept coming off when we pulled the arrows.

The 'soultion' is to make slighty longer arrows and if the break is in the right place I fix another head and hey presto I get to use the arrow agian and it has the benifit of now being the right draw length!
My problem is that I have started using the shoulder of the pile as a draw length check, therefore if the arrow breaks in the way described it is a goner!

I've had a go in the past with them - used Titebond wod glue without any problems. Best to foot them properly really. I'm thinking of stocking a splicing jig for this purpose but they are expensive.

No idea what he used, might have been araldite, but suspect it was more likely a proper woodworking glue as that is his job. How easy would it be to weight match the footings?

I have just discovered I have the opposite problem;

I have not broken any arrows for a while now (unusual for me) and as a result I am now out of fire lighters ;-)

Easy cure for that mate - practice v-draws in a sports hall!
