Fletching "twine"

What sort of twine/thread is used to top & tail fletched on some of the medieval type arrows.

It looks very nice, and something I would like to try, but don't know what to use.

Thanks

I use guttermans "top-stitch" thread myself (on the recommendation of someone else), it's very strong and nice and fine so it doesn't separate the barbs of the feathers. I find the "somac" binding thread the Richard Head sells far too thick for binding the feathers. You can get the top-stitch thread here: Gutermann Top Stitch Thread - 30m spools - Sew Essential

One reel tends to be enough for around 2 dozen arrows (depending on fletching size, and if your doing a full wrap or not). They also sell a pure silk version I think. Hope this helps!

Quicks do a linen serving material [thread] which I think is really good, easy to do whipping with and fine enough to weave through your feathers.
I like it very much, looks good and reasonably historically accurate.
I seem to remember it was about £7 a reel, enough to do dozens of arrows

I bought my reel from Richard Head too, and find it fine for doing my arrows. It's good quality stuff and pretty cheap too.
