Wooden spines

I was about to hijack then thought better of it!

Mrs.tel has decided that longbow is (at least for this phase of the moon) for her. She has developed an affinity with a bow that I bought a while back but never took up and is quite happy draw weight wise.
However, having played with the arrows that came with the bow and several others kindly lent it appears that ridiculously long arrows suit and shorter 'more appropriate' ones don't.
I enquired of one Mr.Head about selection and was told that the recurve charts still applied, but you need to drop the spine by about 10-15lbs to suit longbow (so 25/30 for a 40lb bow at 28" arrow length) and weight adjustment was figured at 5lbs per inch in either direction from that...

Any help for an ignorant recurver greatly appreciated!

just realised that the probable response to that post is "you've already had the info you need" but the thing is I can't quite get my head round the numbers. Taking the required length of c. 26" and the longbow allowance that would mean 15/20 for a 40lb bow - that can't be right surely?

Well, according to the Quicks catalogue spine chart (p76 of the catalogue), at that poundage the spine should be 20/30.

I use(d) 30/35 for my 44@28, which matches their table.

I'd go with Mr. Head's advice- I have had the pleasure of shooting with him, and he knows a thing or two about longbows. Ask abouth the 9/32" Scots Pine shafts too, while you have his attention.

Its dangerous when you girlies get together - you'll end up making her see what a mistake she made.
