I have now spoken to Keith at Yewtree archery. He reckons longbows have to be regarded as consumable and I am putting about three years wear on it in one season. None of this is good news, not looking forward to explaining this to my wife...

About 5 years ago I found myself in a similar situation,my solution was a compromise of shooting 50 % recurve and 50% longbow.
If moneys no object you can just keep buying longbows as often as you need them and/or start making them.

If money's no object... I wish!

Mixing recurve and longbow I would prefer to avoid (plus there's the expense of getting a recurve outfit), I only ever really wanted to shoot longbow from the outset. I have considered giving up longbow, getting an AFB and shooting in the barebow class though.

sp220's suggestion of "practice kit" for volume training sounds sensible, and had crossed my mind. Only experience will show how this will work out! (Still gotta persuade my wife on this one...)

Been to see Mr Bickerstaffe this morning and he is going to be able to fix the damage, think I may have to call this bow Igor after all the patching up it's had!

SP's idea has merit, although I practice with the bow that I use in competition. If you want to go down that route why not get an AFB for practice? Pack out the arrow shelf and handle and it should shoot close enough to a good ELB for practising with. It won't follow the string or wear out like an ELB either.

This is just a thought, and I haven't tried it myself yet

Oh dear, I've already had that thought, forunately not while I was at KG Archery unsupervised by a responsible adult!

Just to complicate my thinking even further I shot a PB for a National with the lighter bow on Sunday, go figure!
