| i think theres also the question of context if this was footage of something done in public as part of a 'trick shot' show or controlled demo (pretty much like the kassai footage is) there would be less issue with it - the fact it appears to be some blokes arsing around in a garden carries the connotation that its common for archers to do this kind of stuff - and that has potential to do the sport no good at all of course - balance that with the potential audience for the video and how relatively small that would be slainte : rob

| And that's assuming that they only inflict licensing on us rather than an outright ban. |

| Good post Yorker. This thread seems to be becoming a little hysterical - sounding more and more like an Ian Paisley speech , so I'm off to shoot. Enjoy your rantings everyone ![]()

| Getting a little carried away here, next we'll be seeing the end of the world as we know it! One thing I will say why should I censor such things? Think about it. They decided to do it and my camera was rolling so why not show it? The archer is a trick shot archer and was sober, the bow used was not a heavy warbow (it was about 30lb draw) and it makes a good piece of film. The interesting thing for me as a film maker is that it has sparked a response from it's target audience which from my point of view is very pleasing. I do know that if I had left it out then many people would have called to account the 'horseback' bit, I mean Mark could of had his nose taken off and imagine if people tried to copy that. Thinking anyone in the powers be would watch that and think we must ban bows and arrows is either ridiculous or shows that things have gotten so bad that they will be banned in any case very soon. In fact any one of the shooting techniques we used would get us thrown off a GNAS shooting line, not because they are danerous (apart from the obvious one, which I might add I refused to do!) but becuase they are percieved to be and frankly it would be completely out of place! One bit I did not catch on film and I really wish I had involved a spectacular bit of target archery. We hung a tennis ball on a piece of string and put it front a hard foam target boss, you know the kind about three inches thick. Joe came up with 150lb bow at about 45 yds, first arrow hit the ball smack in the middle and put the whole thing ball and arrow straight through the target, leaving a tennis ball sized hole. Next up Glenn, again another 'innacurate' warbow, put his arrow straight through the hole and hit the tennis ball in the bank behind! Proves nothing but was good fun! |

| It is an excellent video. It amazes me that people worry constantly about the what ifs. Bloody nanny state. If you are stupid enough to copy this without the skill needed then Darwins laws apply, Cheers all.

| I have seen the video and I thought it was pretty cool, but I would never attempt anything like that, because I have the common sense to know that I do know how dangerous it is, but that is purely my own decision to make ![]() I feel that the responsility is not down to the archer(s) who are demonstrating the skills in the video, but is down to the level of common sense of the person who is watching the video, at least that's how I feel about it. I understand and agree with both sides of the discussion, but if there was ever going to be any kind of ban on archery, either as a sport os the use of equipment, then it would've already been done by now, after all, politicians don't really need an excuse for telling people what they can/can't do, as they do it all the time. Perhaps "United Kingdom" should be changed to "Nanny Kingdom" Willie |
