another quick question to the bow builders out there.

What Glue is best for gluing together the stave and backing? Do you need to use an epoxy resin? or would a strong, water resistant wood glue like Titebond III do the job?

I notice quite a few people over in the states use titebond glues. Cascamite/Extramite (same thing) is a very good glue for this purpose, it comes in powder form and you just mix it with a small amount of water. That's what I've used on the two bows I've made.

I used Polymite
I think its all basically the same stuff (i.e. white powder you mix with water)

Cascamite (or any variation on the name) and Resorcinol are both two part glues that are both waterproof and very strong

Cascamite is a white glue and Resorcinol is red. With Cascamite the two parts are premixed and just require mixing with water, where as the Resorcinol is a liquid and a powder and needs no water mixed with it.

Hope that helps.

Well the parts have been ordered, Osage stave and handle blank, with bamboo backing. the tillering tree is in the process of being made and i am gathering the tools and making ready... cant wait to start now

It'll be a while in the making, but im going to photo document the progress, and in the end put together a build along like some of the others, to share my experiences if it may be of interest to others.

The only downside? i dont have an outhouse big enough to work in, only the garden so work on the longbow is weather dependant :-(
