Home grown?

There is a reference in The English Warbow to documentary evidence suggesting that arrow shafts in medieval times might have been made from coppiced trees. I imagine the resulting shafts would have been naturally tapered. Has anyone tried this in this day and age? What were the resulting arrows like? What were good woods for this? Try this at home? Or not?

a few people have been trying this over on the englishwarbow forum using hazel
they report they work well and the natural taper is ideal for making bobtailed arrows

Cool, will bring a variety of arrows and both bows, I guess we will have to sweet talk the judges/organisers at lunchtime?

Sorry we didnt get chance to play with the radar gun, maybe next year ;-)

That was a seriously impressive score you got there BTW

I got a personal best myself - i.e. no broken arrows ;-)
I was amazed to actually get through the ordeal - that is a lot of arrows !

That sure is a lot of arrows! Started to run out of steam a bit after the first distance of the second round, might have done a little better if I had stuck to the old bow all the way through, the new one is still a bit sharp for anything under 60. The county records officer is in my club and has told me that my score is a new record so I am well chuffed!
