| If possible, definitely avoid ramin wood for making your own arrows. Ramin is more a soft wood and generally has little flex in it, I know this because alot of the cheap budget type snooker/pool cues, often seen in bars and some snooker clubs are made of the same type of wood and they are very poor quality because there is no flex in the wood, and so the dynamics of spin to the cueball is pretty much non exsistent. It's pretty much the same principle with the lack of flex in ramin wood arrow shafts, if the wood isn't flexible enough to be capable of taking the strain of your bow's release rate, then it's only natural that there'll be a high breakage rate. If possible, it is definitely better to go with better quality arrow shafts like Sitka Spruce, POC, Ash, etc ![]() I hope that this is of some help or another ![]() Willie |

| Hey JB ![]() I hear ya on what you're saying, and it sounds very much like the type of ramin used on cheapie pool cues is a different quality of ramin that can be used for arrow shafts, which I guess is the same for other various species of wood ![]() It was the target shooting department that I was thinking of as regards the level of breakage, and not in the clout/flight department (Sounds like an archery range complex or something lol)I guess that it's really down to the quality of the wood again and the level of workmanship that is needed in order to make good arrows with various wood species ![]() Willie |
