Korean Bow Question

I've decided that I'm going to go for a Samick SKB 50 Korean bow with a 45lb draw weight to keep me ticking over untill I can get sorted with a decent elb

Before I go ahead and order the bow of choice, I was wondering if the draw weight is measured @ 28" or 30", or does the bow's draw weight increase slightly with a longer draw, e.g. 30" compared to a standard 28" draw?

I thought that I would ask you guys about this before placing any orders or whatever.

Thank you everyone in advance as it would be good to have a decent bow to get me going again.

Willie

Presuming that the bow does not stack, and the draw-length is measured at 28" a 45#@28" bow should be around the 50#@30" mark.

Thank you Et tu brute , I really appreciate it buddy

I had a suspicion that the weight would be higher, even with the bow's capacity for a much longer draw than 30"

Here's a pic of the bow that I found on the archery world website

I had a feeling that the draw weight would be a bit higher, and so I'm now 100% sure what draw weight to go for

Thank you once again ETB, I really appreciate it alot

I shot next to someone using one once. He said it was like shooting a rubber band! Might be worth trying to get your hands on one to try.

Thanks FlourPower, I really appreciate the input buddy

I spoke with a guy at the Kilmore Archery Centre here in Northern Ireland, but they don't have any korean bows in stock to try out, and so I'm pretty much left to trying to find out how the draw weight/length relation works on these bows, and sounds like it's a case of get one and hope for the best

There is a guy at the local archery club who has a korean bow and it definitely looked to be a smooth and pleasant bow to shoot, but at the same time, I don't know what was the bow pounage he was drawing and I'm not sure when I'll be able to get to the archery club again, (Which is a pain in the butt) but it just makes me more determined to try and find out what I can

Thank you once again FP, I really appreciate it buddy

Aye can be a real problem getting things in Norn Iron. Can you not slabber with one of the shops to see if you can do a try before you buy. Will probably cost you the postage which could be £20 on the £80 bow but may be worth it to get it right.

You're right about that one buddy lol, Norn Iron is as much use as a fart in a space suit sometimes lol

I'll ask and see what happens, but I'll need to get some new arrows anyways, as the ones I have now are about 10lbs too light in spine, for the higher draw weight that I'm looking for, but I'll not mind as I'll need to get new arrows anyway

Thank you once again FP, I really appreciate it

No problem, a member of my club has a bow like this (think it may even be the same model) and she's very pleased with it, according to her it's extremely fast.

Sounds good to me ,

I've esent an e-mail to Archery World to ask them about having a "Test period" from when the bow arrives, to see if the bow's draw weight is suitable, where I can return the bow to have it changed for a lighter or heavier draw weight, in the event that original weight I order isn't suitable

Thank you once again everyone for your replies and input, I apreciate it alot

Double check the bow's straight when it arrives, and only use a bow stringer to string it, and keep checking for limb twists.
These bows are great fun to shoot, but every one I have seen has twisted a limb sooner or later so they need looking after. The more expensive versions of these don't seem to have the same problems, so it is a case of you get what you pay for.
