Beautifully finished arrows

Anyone got any idea how this translucent coloured finish is achieved?

just a guess

Hmm just a guess but it may be wood/leather dye under varnish. The dye will bring out the grain in the shaft and varnish to make them shine. Whoever made these has some lovely arrows. I particularly like the ones made for Melissa!

Most probably wood dye. Looking through the range of colours he uses they could possibly be artist's inks (they come in a wider range of colours, though it could work out quite expensive!).

The arrows are all beautifully finished.

He does mention leather dye and ox blood for the reds. Whether ox blood is the name of a paint/dye or the real thing I don't know.

I pipette my ox blood leather dye into a jam jar then half fill with spirit and !wash" the resulting dye onto the shaft with a dauber! I've made green, pink, red, blue, tan and black shafts up for archers

Thanks for all the ideas. I must look again at the original site and see if there is any more info I have missed. Having seen these I want to make a set in club colours, blue shafts, two red and one yellow fletch, yellow nocks. Am now thinking wood stain something like this, Livos Natural Paint - Wood Stain (Interior) - Ecomerchant under clear varnish. Would Rustins do just as well as a clear coat?
