I have finally tested my new “pointy” Victorian pile arrows at target. I added the link to Mr Heads piles : -

Piles/Points in brass and steel for Longbow Arrows

My daughter and a fellow club member had a 30 yard boss, so I wandered over once I had done some clout.

Now, I am no barebow expert as my experience to recently is based on a full recurve setup (excuses out of the way). Using a 60mm target @ 30 yards I was grouping most on the face. They seemed to fly very nicely with no signs of instability in flight.

The telling thing would be if I had some similar arrows with 100g (or 125g) piles, to see if I could get better average grouping. However, I don’t use any sight marks and tend to follow the Yoda method and just go with the force. For me they are more than adequate for both target and clout.

The only thing I will need to watch is the younger club archers removing them from the boss, as they are very sharp.

For flight arrows you cut the fletchings down a bit to get more distance. You could try that.
