International Longbow Archers Association

Anyone know anything about this 'new' (I think) organisation (ILAA).

I am being told that I will have to join this to obtain my club insurance - rather than BLBS which I have supported for several years (is anything changing at BLBS ?)

Personally I think that the last thing that we need is another society. I would like to see the various archery societies in the UK working more closely together, not splitting into further sub-divisions.

I must admit I didn't find the website that informative, and would not give my money to any society that doesn't let me have a copy of the constitution and rules before I give them my money. It also asks me to check my current insurance, assuring me that ILAA's is better, but I can't find the terms and conditions of theirs so that I can compare it to my current societies.

There are also some statements about GNAS on that site which are not true, as well as the fact that they claim to support all types of longbow, yet I couldn't shoot one of my bows as it is reflexed at the limb-tips, so not a straight bow when unbraced, so it isn't allowed under the definition of a longbow that they show on the site.

Finally, and I may have missed this, but there is no postal address on the web site. I would never give my money to anyone without knowing a postal address.

Daniel

Never heard of them. As others have pointed out if the only form of contact is their website it wouldn't fill me with confidence about ditching GNAS or BLBS for them or handing any details/cash! Can anyone enlighten us to all this?

Isn't this connected somehow with the Fraternity of St George ?. I seem to remember seeing a reference on their website. Could be wrong but it fits the genre

Correction it iscertainly connected with the Fraternity. Yet another example of a 'weaselly' 'take-over' bid. My Scorton friend will understand the allusion.

Nothing will change in BL-BS, Tim, until they have an AGM. Until such time you still enjoy the same coverage as you have always done - as laid out in your Events Guide page 14 - that is the Revised 2008 version, not the first one which was sent out.

I understand the the Committee is considering putting forward a suggestion that the BL-BS might go back to what are perceived to be its origins and no longer arrange or support Roving. This would have to go to the membership at the AGM and it is up to them whether they are in favour or not. Anyone who feels strongly that Roving should remain one of the BLBS activities should make sure they are at the AGM to make their feelings known.

Do you need to have insurance endorsed by membership of a club which you may not feel any affinity with? English Warbow Society recommend that members fix their own.
Could you use this insurance for shooting at your club?

Cheers

The more archers there are in a club group or society the cheaper the Insurance will be per head. So a Society like GNAS is able to obtain Insurance at around 30p to 40p per member. GNAS usually expect you to affilate via a club but you can become an individual member (and pay more)

A small group would have to pay so much for Insurance hat their fees would need to be very high, that (I think) is why EWBS is currently asking members to get their own. When they have more members they will then look at getting Society Insurance as part of their membership deal.

It would depend on the terms of the Insurance whether you would be covered at your Club. BL-BS members are covered whenever and wherever they shoot provided the event is run to BL-BS Rules and they are using BL-BS recognised equipment. They also have affiliated clubs which provides cover if the club itself is sued for negligence.
