I want to experience what it was like to use a longbow in medieval times and I soon realised that my 65lb Victorian bow is not really this so I started considering the possibility of getting a heavy, full compass warbow although I thought it wasn't really a realistic goal - until I found
http://www.englishwarbow.com
It turned out there are lots of people out there with the same goal and it is still possible to pull a heavy bow :-)

I have just bought myself a 102lb @ 32" tri laminate bow from http://www.diyarchery.com/

Just an update as I have now had chance to loose off a few arrows with it :-)

Anyone interested in heavy medieval bows I would recommend you get one, I have been very impressed with it
I had expected to just have it as a novelty item and just try and shoot it occasionally but I was very surprised to find that with the medieval type draw to the ear the weight is nothing like as difficult as you would imagine and its proving to be a perfectly usable bow and I expect to use it all the time now :-)
I really like the long draw as I have always felt very uncomfortable drawing the Victorian way but this feels much more natural and I much prefer it
see the pictures below to compare the difference:

The Victorian is 28"
the medieval 32"

I have just got back from a coaching session and I think I am much happier shooting the Victorian style now I have been shown how it should be done - so only time will tell which I finally decide is best

I suspect I will end up using both ?

yep - it's one of Steve's bows
very good it is too :-)

I have only shot it in the garden a few times so far and I have now found myself getting taken to the Roving Marks with the Finsbury Marks tomorrow so this will be interesting
(I am taking my Victorian bow as well for when I run out of energy ;-)
