Use a small piece of shaft in the drill chuck. Push on a small bit of surgical tubing and then insert your shaft into the other end of the tubing. The tubing will twist and come off and will stop your shaft from snapping yet give enough hold to help you spin the shaft through your block.

Hope that helps!

Thats great thanks Jaselpool. I will get some hardwood dowel for going in the drill end.

I like to shoot a new set of tapered arrow before they are varnished.
If you use fletching tape you can then strip them down again for further adjustment if you consider it necessary to bring them into a tighter group.
Of course once you varnish them they may not group but it's a start.

Trapping plane

I'm considering buying a trapping plane to try when tapering my arrows.
Do they work ?
Which is the best type:-the standard trap or the lathe trap ?
