Just my thoughts on this,

I was going to go the cheap n cheerful flatbow route, and hunted around tried a cpl and was not overly impressed with what £130 got you. I asked about and creapt up to the Bowtec Mistral Bow, and wow a hundred times over it was worth it for the joy upon receipt and the shooting quality, had it now for 4 weeks and cant stop shooting it!!! I crept up to the £200 bracket and also added some carbon into it for another £25 on top, I truely think it is sometimes worth doing it once and properly, save a few more months money and make the purchase then.

Dave took about 6 weeks to put mine together and gave the option of taking a deposit to get it going with rest on completion, that could almost get you through to christmas (where you ask everyone to chip in!!).

all the best and hope you make a good choice

Joe

I don't think I've got the where-with-all to go for a longbow at the moment (as I'm a lazy-chuffer with limited resources) I think I fancy going for an AFB. I've seen the one's that are available through Quicks and KG Archery (although there's no prices on KG), are there any others available and are there any that people would recommend?

The bow would be used in Field Archery using wooden arrows.

Cheers
I've got the internature viper, I've had it about six months, since i finished my beginners course, it's the only bow i have owned so i don't have any comparisons, but it's more than upto the job

Is the 'viper' the standard one you see around, like the one here?

I know I've been in contact with the seller and we just need to determine whether it's feasible to post from Berkshire to Derbyshire. There's also a longbow on NFAS that I've been looking at.

Sending bow in the mail

Jimbo, posting bows isn't a problem. I've sent and received bows up to 70" long with no hassles apart from once when PostVan lost a yew Rex Oakes Saggi - I still feel sick & bitter over that one but the seller had insurance so I wasn't out of pocket. Get the seller to put the bow in a carboard tube that any carpet dealer would be happy to give away. Cost is usually about £15 using one of the main carriers. I usually use parcelforce but I was once told by the telephone operator that the item was too long. I just called again and got a different operator, who arranged the collection as usual.

recommend a starter AFB

This subject crops up a lot on the US forums www.stickbow.com and www.tradgang.com.There are others but these are my favourites. They are hunting oriented although trad gang has a section for the non hunters.Often the advise is to buy a good secondhand bow from ebay, the usa one that is.There are plenty threads recommending good makers also discussions on shipping inter state and overseas

Thank you all for the advice, I am now the proud owner of a 45# Internature Viper AFB (that one that was on the NFAS classifieds) .

Now I just need to get myself some wooden arrows
