Where Can I purchase a cresting machine / lathe (uk if poss)

Hello all,

well as my obsessive nature dictates that i must go into things way too far, just 1 day after receiving my AFB and a set of average arrows i now want to take on the arrow making world and lear all about arrow making.

in this quest I have decided I am going to get a cresting machine, or worst case knock one up.

anyone out there know wher one is? where I can get, would prefer not having to ship from US, but if that is the case so be it.

many thanks

Joe

what about an ordinary power drill?

slot the pile in the chuck, tighten finger tight (preferably secure the drill in a vice or workmate), turn on the power and apply paint to the shaft. Does it for me!

or:

A little electric motor, an elastic band, a couple of resistors and a battery.
A piece of wood, and four wheels.

That works for me!

I usually find a purpose made tool does the job best. The accepted king of the cresting machines is the Phillips one as pictured http://whisperarro.homestead.com/Pro...r_orig_jig.jpg costing $175 from http://www.whisperingwindarrows.com
The reason most professional arrowmakers use it is that a shaft doesn't have to be perfectly straight in order to get a wobble free paint line. I use the Bohning Pro Crester $130 but the shafts do need to be reasonably straight. I get lots of my stuff from an ebay trader called Tom Rhude - you'll find his site on my links page. He charges the same as 3 Rivers without the mental shipping costs. I've also never had to pay import duty when I buy from him.
