Edit - Oh almost forgot. If I paint the shafts (matt paint, not smooth) should I use a clear varnish over the top to smooth it out or would a rub down with wire wool be ok? Also should I colour/finish the shafts before tapering the ends or before attaching the piles and nocks or after nocks and piles?

Step by step

1, Cut shaft to desired length
2, Taper nock & point ends, lightly sand shafts
3, Straighten shafts
4, Paint/stain & crest shafts
5, Fit nocks & piles
6, Apply 3 coats of varnish (rub down with 0000 wire wool between coats)
7, Fletch
8, Shoot
9, Swear
10, Lose/break
11, Repeat from no1 ad nauseum

Cheers rob Gonna pop down and see Carol Edwards to get me bits, probably tomorrow. Aint got the bow yet but I trust you plus she can also give some advise and Id like to have the arrows ready for when I get the bow.

I have a very powerfull heat gun. Guess that would work as well as there is no flame would probably work better?
