warbow

I would like to get myself a warbow ELB
In my opinion this means a full compass bow with no handle and at least 100lb draw weight ?

If anyone out there has one I would appreciate any advice etc.?

As a warbow is drawn to the ear, when they say the bows on the Mary Rose were 100lb (well many of them anyway) would this be a measure at 28" or would this be an estimate of that they would actually have been pulling (i.e. more like 30")?

Hello Alan,

I cannot answer your questions but I guess that if you post the query on http://www.englishwarbow.com/forum you will get more information than you could possibly want

Best wishes, Mark

Thanks, that is a really good website and the people on the forum are very friendly/helpful.

I had not fully realised just how far from a medieval longbow my Victorian longbow actually is. I don't think a medieval archer would even recognise it as being a longbow?

Its going to be a steep learning curve learning how to use a warbow but it promises to be a very interesting one.

Will do

So far I have made myself some "standard arrows" - 3/8" 32" etc. and I am shooting them from my flatbow (as that will draw to 32")

This bow is approx. 75lb at that length and I have discovered that its almost impossible to get the arrows out of the boss so I have no idea how I will get on when I get my "big bow" ?
I may have to only use the foam targets ???

I am finding drawing to the ear the biggest challenge at the moment as I have to learn to shoot all over again
Once you work out how to use the back rather than your arms when drawing the bow the weight isn't has bad as it sounds - at the moment I can draw 100lbs no problem but I don't think I could do it for more than a few shots at a time so more practise required

My "plan" is to get a bow which I think would be usable by an archer of old and then see how acurate I can get with it

I wonder if GNAS will let me use it in a shoot? ;-)
