Potters Barn - Hassal Green, Cheshire. Has anyone attended the longbow making course here, if so how was it? My wife has bought me a session there as a Christmas present.

I attended a course run by the same chap that they get in to do the Potter's Barn courses. Mine was a one day jobbie at Chirk castle and was a most enjoyable and informative day out. Plus at the end of the day I had a bow that shoots pretty well , very pleased at my first attempt at bow making. You'll love it. Sean

Yup - details are here Click the link to Archery. Might be best to put your shades on before you dive in though!

Well, so far so good. I now have a simple selfbow made from ash. The day was spent in the selection and preparation of the wood, then shaping and forming of the bow - lots of sawing, planing, sanding and filing all under the expert eye of Mark Cooper. Thoroughly enjoyable and a great pub lunch was included too. Now all I have to do is make some arrows (tomorrow), tiller the bow and then fire it. The key thing with this course is that it gives you the knowledge to know what to look for in a length of wood and what to do with it, so that your next bow will always be better than the last (or first) one.
